Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur

The history of the IIT system dates back to 1946 when a committee was set up by Hon'ble Sir Jogendra Singh, Member of the Viceroy's Executive Council, Department of Education, Health and Agriculture to consider the setting up of Higher Technical Institutions for post war industrial development in India. The 22 member committee headed by Sri N.R.Sarkar, in its report, recommended the establishment of four Higher Technical Institutions in the Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern regions, possibly on the lines of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, with a number of secondary institutions affiliated to it.

Kharagpur College (Inda College)

Kharagpur College was founded on 29 August (Monday) 1949 in the premises of the Silver Jubilee School at Kharagpur, Puratan Bazar. Soon, thereafter, the college obtained a gift of nearly 40 bighas of land from Mrs. Saleha Khatoon , wife of late Nasir Ali Khan of Panchberia, Kharagpur and the construction of college building started under the dispersal scheme of the State Government on the 2nd day of July 1951. The functioning of the college then started in its own building at the present permanent site at Inda, Kharagpur.

Hijli College

Hijli College is an undergraduate, coeducational college situated in Hijli, near Kharagpur, Paschim Medinipur, and West Bengal. It was established in the year 1995. The college is under Vidyasagar University.[1] Hijli College started functioning from August 1995. Bounded by the vastly stretched forests of sal, Akashmoni and Eucalyptus on one side, the college is situated in the midst of the green meadow of Kuchlachati, about 1.5 km,towards the eastern side of the Prembazar Health Center.

Kharagpur Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital

In the year 1971, some generous personalities of Kharagpur came forward to establish a composite Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital in the central part of this town to cater the needs of the distressed humanity and of those thirsting for knowledge in Homoeopathy.
Kharagpur Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital was first set temporarily in a Railway area at Subhaspally Gate, Kharagpur in 1971 and in 1978 this Institution was shifted to Kausallya, about 2 K.M. off from the Railway station.
Homoeopathy (Minimum standards of Education) Regulation 1983. and amended regulations, 2002, Homoeopathy Central Council (MSR) Regulations, 2013 and degree course BHMS regulations 1983 amended upto March,2016.

Dr B C Roy Institute of Medical Science & Research (under construction)

The Indian Institute Of Technology-Kharagpur's medical college is set to debut in 2020. The hospital will start functioning from 2018 and the MBBS programme would be launched in the following three years.
"With the first phase of construction of Dr BC Roy Institute of Medical Science & Research getting over by June this 2017, we are now working towards making the hospital operational from 2018. So that, as per regulation we can start offering MBBS programme in another three-years time," said Sriman Kumar Bhattacharyya, Deputy Director of the institute, who is in-charge of setting up the medical college for IIT-Kharagpur.
